Campaign Launched To Highlight Help For Economic Challenges

The headlines may be increasingly gloomy but Yorkshire businesses are being advised to make the most of the support that is available to help them through the current economic downturn.

The ‘when the going gets tough’ campaign has been launched by Yorkshire Forward today to raise awareness of the support that is available through the region’s Business Link service, which was relaunched earlier this year.

The campaign will run until the end of January 2009 and is using online advertising and roadside ads on key routes in Leeds, Sheffield, Bradford, York, Hull and Wakefield to encourage businesses to contact Business Link Yorkshire to find out how its support services could help them.

Business Link Yorkshire provides free, impartial advice to budding entrepreneurs and existing companies on various aspects of business growth; including ways they can develop their workforce skills, access new markets and new sources of finance, which could prove extremely useful in the current climate, as Yorkshire Forward’s Simon Hill explains;

“There is no question that it is a difficult time out there at the moment but there is no benefit in being defeatist or hiding away – life has to go on.  This region has a strong economy built on excellent businesses and we will come through this current period of difficulty.

“What we want to do with this campaign is remind people that there is a huge amount of support and expertise on offer to Yorkshire and Humber businesses that could help them stay on track and come out of the current downturn even stronger.

“The new Business Link Yorkshire service is built on the principle of providing businesses with first class, impartial advice and support in the key areas that will help them to achieve maximum growth.  This is a useful resource at any time, but is even more vital at the moment and so we want to promote it as widely as we can.”

Chris Gray of South Yorkshire Printers agrees that there is a lot to be gained from accessing Business Link support in the current climate.  He used Business Link to implement a programme of improvements and the company is now well on the way to £2m as the company reaps the rewards of a streamlined and productive business.

Chris said: “Over the years we had become a little blinkered and set in our ways. Business Link has helped open our eyes to more productive business practices and procedures. They helped us on our way to lean manufacturing, all of which are having a healthy effect to the bottom line.

“The processes we now have in place set us in good stead to perform well in the current adverse market conditions. We now have a clear focus about the way forward and the long-term security of our business. We are thankful that Business Link put us in touch with the right specialist support at the right time to help us succeed.”
