Hull & Humber's chemical industry is hugely important and represents one of the most established areas of chemical production in the UK. It is home to such industry giants as BP Chemicals, Novartis and Millennium Inorganic Chemicals.

The Humber region is a major exporter of chemical products, and houses one of the fastest growing chemical bases within the UK, and one of the busiest in Europe, with investment in new build, expansion and maintenance exceeding £1 billion in the last 4 years. In addition, a CATCH (Centre for Assessment of Technical Competency – Humber) exists to make a real contribution to the competitiveness of the Chemical and Allied businesses in Hull & Humber by encouraging people to choose careers in the industry and by facilitating the provision of effective, industry-led training and competence assessment within an authentic plant environment.
